“We opted for a three-run strategy during today’s qualifying, as we felt it was give me the best chance to get into Q2. I knew it would be tough because we are not as competitive here at Mugello as we have been at other tracks.

After practice, we made quite a big change before qualifying to gear the car more towards the race set-up. The first run felt pretty good and the car was right in the window, which gave me a positive feeling.

Unfortunately, the balance of the car seemed to change across the following runs with each set of tyres, and as the session wore on there was more and more understeer. We compensated for that with front wing changes, but by the last run the car was understeering so much it limited what was possible. A frustrating situation because I felt there was definitely more to come.

Time to re-group now and get ready for the race. It’s the first time Formula 1 has raced at Mugello so hopefully there will be plenty of opportunities and I’ll be on the lookout to grab anything that comes my way.”
