Abu Dhabi GP: The story behind my weekend
There are positives to take from today’s race – even though an oil leak brought things to a premature end on lap 52. Our reliability this year has been strong, and with the exception of a practice issue in Austria, I think this is the only major problem I have experienced. It’s part of the game, it’s motorsport, it can happen.
Up to that point I was running a decent race, sitting comfortably in P13, having jumped the Alfa and Haas drivers, which was my pre-race goal.
I’m gutted for George after he came so close to a win, but it was great to see him running right at the sharp end. And of course massive congratulations to Sergio for a well deserved victory.
Tomorrow evening I’ll leave for Abu Dhabi and the last race of the year. Going into any race, whether it is the first or last, you want to carry positive momentum – and this weekend has given me that.
On paper it’s perhaps not a track that suits our car the best, so it will be challenging, but I’ll give it all I can.
It’s hard to make predictions at this point, but I want to finish ahead of Haas and Alfa Romeo again. It’s the last race before the winter break and I want to round off the season on a high!
