Abu Dhabi GP: The story behind my weekend
“A very tricky race, to say the least. Probably one of the trickiest I’ve ever driven. Clearly we were lacking overall pace as a team.
“The start and the opening laps were very difficult, I just wasn’t feeling the grip. Then once the race settled down I struggled with the balance of the car, especially under braking. It was difficult to any kind of racing, whether attacking or defending – which was pretty much the case for my whole race. Of the 65 laps, I think 60 were spent defending from behind…
“It’s unfortunate, but we’re still missing something with the car. We found a tonne of pace overnight from Friday to Saturday, and I think there’s still something we’re not quite understanding that’s causing a lack of pace.
“So we’ll reset now, analyse everything and its onward to Barcelona, which I’m optimistic will be a better race for us.
“The track should suit us better than Portimao. Hopefully it’s not as windy, as you hear me and George talking all the time about the lovely wind conditions and how they affect our car! Full focus on Spain then and hopefully we have a good weekend next time out.”
