‘Home’ comforts on the eve of the British GP
I’m really pleased with getting to Q2 for the first time in Formula 1!
I’ve got to acknowledge the amazing work the team has done. Today we saw clear progress, not just in terms of lap times, but also in comparison to our competitors.
We knew this track was going to suit us and we capitalised on the opportunity. Both cars went into Q2 on merit, without any outside influences. We did it on pure pace.
From my side, I was very happy with the lap in Q1 that got me into Q2, even though there were a few areas where I could have improved.
In Q2 I decided to try some different settings, just to see if I could find more time. It didn’t work, and that’s why I was quite a bit slower than my Q1 time, but I had nothing to lose. If things had been different I might have found a couple of tenths.
This meant the gap to George was a bit more than it might have been, but I’m still experimenting and trying to find where I can unlock more speed. Overall a very satisfying day, not just for myself, but for the whole team.”
