Abu Dhabi GP: The story behind my weekend
“I gave it my best shot, but we always knew Abu Dhabi was likely to be a tough one for the team. Of course you hope to be proved wrong, but today did show the limits of the package we have at our disposal. Overall we lacked pace, and early on the balance of the car in the dirty air was very difficult. Things improved as the race wore on, but generally it was a tricky race for me and the team.
Irrespective of today’s result, it has been an amazing experience having my rookie year with a team like Williams. They are a fantastic group of people, both trackside and at the factory. Even faced with a crazy year like this, which presented so many fresh challenges, they have always worked at 100 per cent. As a driver that’s all you can ask for, knowing everyone is behind you, even when things have been difficult. It is a privilege to represent every single one of them.
I think everybody’s ready for a well-earned Christmas break now. I can’t wait to go home and catch up with the friends and family I’ve not been able to see due to the restrictions in place. It will be a chance to recharge the batteries before we step up preparations for 2021 – and hopefully the return to a more normal season.
I’ll be posting more updates in the next few weeks, so look out for those, but for now thanks for all of your support throughout the year – it really does mean a lot.”
